The National Center for Health Statistics is currently conducting a pretest of approximately 70 establishments in six states (CT, IL, MD, MN, NC, and VA) in advance of the first federal government survey of assisted living facilities and residents.  The full survey is scheduled to be done in a couple of years.  According to federal researchers, some interviews for the pretest have been done, others have been scheduled, and for some others, the recruiters are in the process of contacting AL communities.  The pretest will involve only a few facilities, so you may not even hear that it is going on.  NCAL and other assisted living associations have been working with the federal government agencies sponsoring the survey.  If are contacted by the National Center for Health Statistics, please contact me at 952-851-2484 or pmanz@careproviders.org.
