Constitutional Amendment on the November 4th Ballot
By Larry Johnson

As part of our ongoing effort to inform members on issues you will see on the ballot on November 4th, Care Providers of Minnesota is providing the following information about a Constitutional Amendment to dedicate an increased sales tax to the environment and arts.

During the 2008 legislative session, the legislature voted to put a constitutional amendment on the ballot.  This amendment would raise the state sales tax by .375% (7 cents on a $20.00 purchase) for the next 25 years.  Revenue generated from this increase would be dedicated to clean water projects, wildlife habitat, parks, trails and the arts.

If a voter skips the constitutional amendment question, it will be counted as a “No” vote, as 50 percent of all persons voting must approve the amendment in order for it to become law.

For more information, visit http://www.yesformn.org/ (an organization in support of the referendum); or http://www.nosalestaxincrease.org/ (an organization opposing the measure).  Or call Larry Johnson at (952) 851-2482 with any additional questions.
