HealthForce Minnesota Announces Latest RFP for Grants
By Patti Cullen, CAE

HealthForce Minnesota, one of the four Centers of Excellence in Minnesota, has funded several initiatives over the past few years involving providers of long-term care services.  They have just released their latest request for proposal for grant awards.  The HealthForce Minnesota FY 2011 Request for Proposals (RFP) continues to emphasize supporting programs and projects that recognize both the short- and long-term challenges facing healthcare providers in recruiting and retaining a skilled and diverse workforce.  The challenge to applicants for this pool of funding is to demonstrate a focus on making an impact by delivering a sustainable project that embraces replicability, broad reach and revenue, and to encourage innovation during these times of economic and healthcare workforce downturns.

The FY 2011 RFP builds upon our investments to ensure consistent and effective responses to the needs of the healthcare industry.  Awarded funds will be available in November 2010 and must be spent by June 30, 2011.

Four Program Areas

The RFP is divided into four program areas (no priority is intended in the order as listed:

I. Creating/expanding the vision of youth for healthcare careers.

II. Increasing the recruitment and retention of a diverse healthcare workforce.

III. Developing/implementing credit and non-credit programs to provide advancement opportunities for the incumbent healthcare workforce.

IV. Developing new curricula and/or programs to meet current and future healthcare workforce needs.

Award Range

HealthForce Minnesota will award up to six grants worth up to $50,000 each.  However, we may award more than the six grants if funds are available following the initial awards.

 Key Dates and Deadlines

1. Release of the Request for Proposals:  September 1, 2010.

2 Deadline for receipt of Proposals:  3:00 PM on October 1, 2010.
