Long-Term Care Providers Online Connection | Action
Convention Opening & Closing Keynotes Capture Essence of Innovation and Action Convention Theme
By Cyndi Spencer

Care Providers of Minnesota 2010 Convention-goers will hear two distinctly different keynote presentations this year, both bringing messages from which attendees will draw inspiration on a professional level and appreciation on a personal level.  This year’s keynote sessions frame a Convention that will offer nearly 100 breakout sessions, an E-Learning Lab, an MDS 3.0 Resource Room, a full Expo Hall, a Silent Auction and a Wall of Wine—two fundraising events for the Care Providers of Minnesota Foundation—and numerous other special activities and events.

A Future of Change—Surviving and Flourishing in Uncharted Waters
Opening Session speaker Steve ShieldsSteve Shields, an international change leader in senior housing and services, will open the 2010 Convention by sharing projections of the future of long-term care and how today’s leaders must frame their thinking, planning, and implementation to meet that future.  New and future service models, internal and external threats and opportunities in the present and future operating climates, and a framework for creating the needed changes that will increase probability of organizational sustainability will round out this stage-setting opening address.  The Opening Keynote Session & Awards Presentation is scheduled for Monday, November 15 from 10 – 11:15 a.m.

There Is No “They”
Delivering Care from the Customer’s Perspective
Closing Session speaker Larry JohnsonWhile on a bicycling vacation in 2003, CJ, who is Larry Johnson’s wife and life partner of 38 years, was involved in an accident that changed their world.  Despite wearing a helmet, CJ sustained a closed head injury that put her in a coma for eight weeks, then a persistent vegetative state, from which she emerged seven months later.  Going from intensive care to skilled nursing to home health care, CJ and Larry have experienced firsthand what it’s like to be a health care customer.  In this dynamic, humorous, and heart-felt closing presentation, Larry shows the audience how they can make huge differences in residents’ perceptions of the care they receive.  Larry and CJ’s is one story that will touch the hearts of the audience and make them glad they have chosen to work in this very noble field.  The Closing Session & Awards Presentation will be held Wednesday, November 17 from 1:30 – 2:45 p.m.
