Goodbye MDS 2.0, Hello MDS 3.0
By Doug Beardsley After many years of design, delays, and preparation, MDS 3.0 became a reality on October 1, 2010. Hopefully the training opportunities provided by Care Providers of Minnesota, the Minnesota Department of Health, and various software vendors and consultants helped providers be ready to successfully “hit the road” when the switchover occurred. We know that some software firms have experienced connectivity issues with the ASAP (Assessment Submission and Processing) system, and that CMS also had issues with the ASAP system; I’m sure these will quickly be worked out. We also have heard that many providers discovered they had not kept up with the updating of their MDS 3.0 RAI manuals, including the many updates CMS issued in September. You are not alone if you continue to have MDS 3.0 questions! Following are some resources for you to access in your quest for MDS expertise: MDH Recorded Webinars, available by MDS sections MDH live MDS telephone conferences Pathway Health Services is currently offering the following free MDS services: Care Providers of Minnesota Convention MDS Learning Opportunities: Three opportunities to meet one-on-one with MDS Experts: November 15: Noon – 2:00 p.m. Care Providers of Minnesota will continue to monitor MDS issues and updates as they arise. Future RAI manual updates, including a summary of the issues the updates affect, will be covered in future issues of Action. Doug Beardsley |
