Convention Highlights at a Glance
By Cyndi Spencer

Below are some important facts about this year’s Convention that you’ll want to know and share with others as you make your plans to attend:

Hotel Reservations:  Make Yours by October 24
If you’ll be traveling and staying at the Hyatt this year, please note that the room block lifts on Sunday, October 24.  To receive the discounted room rates ($134 single/$144 double, plus tax), make sure to register online HERE.

You can also call and make reservations directly at:  612-370-1234.  Make sure to mention Care Providers of Minnesota to receive the discounted rates.

Education Sessions:  14.5 NHA/17.4 Contact Hours
Education sessions have been greatly expanded in 2010, offering you nearly 100 breakout and keynote sessions to choose from, on topics ranging from MDS 3.0 to end-of-life issues.  Education tracks are distributed across the three days of the Convention, providing a wide variety of sessions to choose from no matter which day(s) you attend Convention.  For those seeking continuing education credits, 14.5 nursing home administrator credits have been applied for from the Minnesota Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators.  For nurses, a total of 17.4 contact hours are available this year.  Application for continuing education credit will also be made with the Certifying Board for Dietary Managers, the Minnesota Dietetic Association, and the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals.  Some sessions may also comply with the Minnesota Board of Social Work.  That makes the Convention one of the more cost-effective ways to earn continuing education available to you at any time during the year.

Expo Hall Is Open Monday and Tuesday This Year
Expo Hall days and hours have changed a little this year to take advantage of peak attendance and traffic days.  The Expo Hall will be open Monday, November 15 from 5 – 7 p.m. for a “Leaders and Decision-Makers Expo Hall Preview.”  The event is open to all attendees, but is especially designed to provide an opportunity for corporate staff, owners, administrators, and department managers (anyone who makes or influences purchasing decisions) to have time to preview the Expo Hall and talk with exhibitors in an atmosphere more conducive to having conversations and setting appointments.  Great hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will make this a perfect event to end a busy first Convention day.  The Hall will also be open on Tuesday, November 16 from 10:15 a.m. – 3:45 p.m., with both dedicated expo hours and extended hours when you can visit with exhibitors if not attending an education session.  Make sure your plans include a stop at the Expo Hall Break from 3:15 – 3:45 p.m. for a last tour of the hall and an afternoon snack.  The Expo Hall will NOT be open on Wednesday, November 17.

MDS 3.0 Experts Available All Three Days
MDS 3.0 experts (state agency staff, consultants, and member providers) will be available at the Convention to answer your MDS 3.0 questions and offer suggestions:

Monday, November 15

Noon – 2 p.m.

Tuesday, November 16

Noon – 2 p.m.

Wednesday, November 17

8:30 – 10 a.m.

Look for signage directing you to this valuable resource room.

There is a wealth of other opportunities and reasons to attend this year’s Convention that space won’t permit us to elaborate on here, so please check out the Convention website (you’ll find the link under Education & Events) for all that’s planned.  And then plan to join us!

To register today, click HERE.  Remember, your registration is not complete until you fill in the spreadsheet we send you, which will only require two things:  A list of all the names of the attendees from your facility/business who plan to come to the Convention, and the list of breakout sessions each of them plan to attend.  All who complete the registration process by Monday, October 25, will receive their name badges before Convention, and not have to stand in the registration line to get them!
