I can’t believe it’s already here, but in just a few days, our annual convention – INNOVATION AND ACTION – will take place at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis.

These three days, November 15 – 17, are going to be absolutely incredible.  There is still time to register, if you haven't already done so, but only until Friday morning.  You can register right now by clicking HERE, or if you are more of a last-minute person, you can show up the at the Hyatt and register in person!

To remind you of what’s in store – here’s what you can expect each of the days:

Monday, November 15
The Opening Session kicks off at 10:00 a.m., but join us earlier for a complimentary cup (or two) of coffee, sponsored by your Board of Directors.

The keynote presenter is Steve Shields, who will talk about “A Future of Change – Surviving and Flourishing in Uncharted Waters.”  But before Steve takes the stage, three awards are to be presented:  the Adult Volunteer of the Year, Resident Life Enrichment, and Youth Volunteer of the Year awards.

Then, check your convention book because there are 28 Breakout Sessions offered on Monday.

Also, new this year, a “preview” in the expo hall from 5 – 7 p.m., featuring hors d' oeuvres prepared especially by the Hyatt's chef for this year's Convention goers, a cash bar, and entertainment.

Tuesday, November 16
Start the day off with another cup of complimentary coffee from 8 – 9, served in the Nicollet Promenade.  Attend an educational session, then make your way to the Exhibit hall, which opens at 10:15.  Stock up on SWAG, talk to new and returning exhibitors who have a wealth of products and services.  (The Hall will be open from 10:15 a.m – 3:45 p.m.).

Tuesday evening is the annual Celebration of Caring dinner that features a great night of recognition.  Prior to the dinner is a reception that is open to all convention attendees, during which time you can bid on silent auction items or purchase raffle tickets to win bottles from our Wall of Wine.

33 Breakout Sessions will be offered on Tuesday.

Wednesday, November 17
More coffee available in the Nicollet Promenade area (what a surprise) from 8 – 8:30, followed by 3 sets of education sessions!   The closing session begins at 1:30 and features our final three awards:  the Aide – Caregiver of the Year; Nurse – Caregiver of the Year; and the Community Partnership Award.

Delivering the Closing Session presentation is Larry Johnson, who will present There Is No “They” – Delivering Care from the Customer’s Perspective.

While on a bicycling vacation in 2003, CJ, who is Larry Johnson’s wife and life partner of 38 years, was involved in an accident that changed their world.  Despite wearing a helmet, CJ sustained a closed head injury that put her in a coma for eight weeks, then a persistent vegetative state, from which she emerged seven months later.  Going from intensive care to skilled nursing to home health care, CJ and Larry have experienced firsthand what it’s like to be a health care customer.

In this dynamic, humorous, and heart-felt closing presentation, Larry shows the audience how they can make huge differences in residents’ perceptions of the care they receive.  Larry and CJ’s is one story that will touch the hearts of the audience and make them glad they have chosen to work in this very noble field.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Gail
