Congressional Lame Duck Action—Senate and House Pass RUGs-IV and Therapy Caps Legislation!
By Larry Johnson Late Wednesday evening, we received an alert from AHCA/NCAL that after many months of lobbying both the House and Senate, they have received confirmation that our two highest priorities for the Lame Duck session—a repeal of the RUG-IV implementation delay and the extension of the current therapy caps exceptions process—were included in a bill passed by the Senate on Wednesday afternoon. Thursday afternoon, we received word from AHCA that the bill has passed in the House as well. The legislation extends the current exceptions process until December 31, 2011, as well as repeals the delay of the RUG-IV implementation to October 1, 2011. The bill now goes to the President, who is expected to sign it. Because of your grassroots support totaling more than 25,000 letters nationwide, there is not an office on Capitol Hill that does not know our position on these two issues of critical importance to post-acute and long-term care. Thank you for your action on this issue—it has truly helped make the difference. We will continue to keep you posted on any legislation before Congress that will affect our members. Larry Johnson |
