Changes to Elderly Waiver Service Criteria for 24 Hour Customized Living
By Phil Manz

The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) has issued Bulletin 10-25-11, 2011 Changes to Elderly Waiver Service Criteria for 24 Hour Customized Living.  The changes now require those clients who previously qualified for 24 Hour Customized Living services with a need for medication management and 50 hours of service per month to have dependency in two (rather than one) of the following activities of daily living – dressing, grooming, walking, or eating.  Based on the customized living workbooks received during the first nine months of 2009, this change would have impacted less than 2% of participants receiving customized living or 24 hour customized living services.

The change will apply to all new elderly waiver participants entering on or after January 1, 2011, existing participants at their reassessment on or after January 1, 2011 and any other participants in other programs who change to participate in the Elderly Waiver program on or after January 1, 2011.
