Wilder Foundation Receives Schulze Family Grant
By Patti Cullen, CAE

The Amherst H. Wilder Foundation has announced its selection by The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation as its 2010 Transformational Grant Award recipient. The grant will provide $2.2 million over the next five years to support and develop critical services for older adults and their caregivers through the Wilder Foundation’s Community Services for Aging. As the number of seniors in the community continues to grow, the Wilder Foundation works to ensure that older adults and caregivers have access to affordable and effective services that improve their quality of life. Support from The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation will enable the Wilder Foundation to demonstrate new models of care that can be replicated across the broader community.

Funds from The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Transformational Grant will support the Wilder Foundation’s commitment to:

  • Model best practices in aging services
  • Develop new models of support for caregivers
  • Design research and outcome measures
  • Provide community leadership through convening and collaboration

The announcement of the Transformational Grant Award coincides with the opening of the Wilder Foundation’s newly renovated Community Center for Aging. Scheduled to open its doors in January 2011 in St. Paul, this Center will consolidate most of the Wilder Foundation’s services for older adults and caregivers under one roof and will serve as a hub for resources related to healthy aging, memory loss, and caregiver support. None of The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation’s support will go toward the capital costs of the Center, but the grant will spur program growth at this site.
