Input Requested for Primary Care Workforce Vision Development
By Patti Cullen, CAE

The Affordable Care Act will insure more people, increasing the need for healthcare workers. In recognition of this, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) funded 25 states to create plans that will increase the number of primary care practitioners in each state 10 to 25% by 2021. Minnesota was awarded $149,499 to conduct a collaborative planning process that builds on Minnesota’s many current healthcare workforce and education initiatives and represents the needs of Minnesota citizens. The Governor’s Workforce Development Council (GWDC) was the applicant; it subcontracted with HealthForce Minnesota to lead the implementation of the grant. Care Providers of Minnesota submitted a letter of support, and is a partner in this initiative.

HealthForce Minnesota is in the regional planning stage of the HRSA Primary Care Workforce Grant and is inviting our insight, thoughtful input, and project ideas to help create the best primary care delivery workforce for Minnesota in the coming decade!

Six Ways You Can Help Create the Vision for Minnesota’s Primary Care!
We need as much participation as possible in the next two to three months. Here's how you can help:
1. Come join us at one of eight regional meetings (above) in February, and bring/send an associate.
2. Invite Rebecca Radcliffe, Project Manager, to your professional meeting, organization, or association to lead a "Great Ideas for Minnesota Strategic Input" session.
3. Pass out the Strategic Input Questions to your colleagues to get their input and ideas.
4. Answer the Strategic Input Questions, if you can’t attend a meeting or have more ideas.
5. See all of the ideas and insight from the Strategic Input Questions we’ve received at Input & Ideas.
6. Think about "shovel ready" projects that you want to submit for consideration. We are creating a simple two-page application to outline your project idea. Check Submit Projects in early February for details.

Who Should Participate
We need input and strategic thinking from professionals involved in a broad spectrum of primary care — service delivery, education, and employment — as defined in the most holistic, inclusive sense possible because this is what will truly shape effective change for the citizens of Minnesota. This means professionals involved in: high school career counseling, post-secondary education and training for healthcare, hospitals, clinics, community organizations, county social services, dental care, pharmacy, allied health, mental and behavioral health, aging services, and long-term care.
