New AHCA/NCAL President/CEO Reaches Out to State Affiliates
By Patti Cullen, CAE Mark Parkinson has officially joined the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) as President & CEO, replacing Bruce Yarwood who retired at the end of 2010. The former Governor of Kansas, Parkinson’s portfolio in Kansas includes a law degree, owner/operator of nursing facilities and assisted living centers, state legislator, lieutenant governor, and governor. In many respects, serving as President & CEO of AHCA/NCAL is the next logical step in his career. The Governor has a steadfast commitment to the cause of caring for elders and persons with disabilities. Further, he has a strong history of achieving bipartisan consensus working in the Kansas legislature as well as expertise in handling a state budget in these tough economic times. Recognizing that AHCA/NCAL is a federation model, with membership comprised of the state affiliate associations, one of Parkinson’s first actions was to schedule conference calls with each state executive. If you have any particular issue or concern you would like Care Providers of Minnesota to relay to the new “chief” during our upcoming conference call, just email or call Patti Cullen at pcullen@careproviders.org or 952-851-2487.
