State Budget Webinar on March 8
By Cheryl Smith On February 15, Governor Dayton presented his proposal budget, which is a mix of taxes and cuts. The state budget has a $6.2 billion hole and the Governor‘s proposed budget cuts $87 million out of vital programs that ensure Minnesota’s poorest seniors have access to care. In addition to making cuts of almost 8% to nursing homes and assisted living establishments, the Governor added a $28 million tax on nursing homes and seniors to balance the budget. The surcharge is a true “Granny Tax” that does not go back to long-term care providers, but instead is diverted to other budget priorities. The cuts proposed by Governor Dayton represent $71.4 million in lost economic activity for Minnesota. This budget is the first phase of a long and winding road, and the Governor balanced his budget with $4 billion in new revenues, an approach not likely to be taken by the GOP majorities. This webinar will feature former Minnesota Commissioner of Management and Budget Tom Hanson, who will go through the explanation of the budget and its impacts. Care Providers of Minnesota’s Todd Bergstrom will go through the specific numbers for older adult services. This webinar is designed to answer questions and help you gain perspective on the budget proposals and the impacts to you and your residents. State Budget—Where Do We Go From Here? Space is limited.
