Spotlight on Our Board of Directors
By Nancy McCoy

This week we turn our spotlight to Tim Bush, Director of Operations, Golden Living. Tim spends a fair amount of his professional life right here in Minnesota; however, he actually grew up in Fargo, ND and has made his home there. Tim is married to Michelle and they have two very active little boys, Bennett, age 5, and Layton, 2; their pug, Bojo, completes the family. Tim and Michelle spend many weekends involved with Bennett’s termite hockey team, and with spring around the corner, Bennett will be adding soccer and t-ball to round out his athletic activities. Tim enjoys any outdoor activities, but particularly hunting and fishing. His two boys are already experienced fishermen, as they have regular fishing excursions with Dad and Grandpa. And one might expect Tim to introduce hunting to the boys before too long, if he hasn’t already! Tim and Michelle also enjoy traveling and family trips whenever they can get away.

Tim BushTim graduated from Concordia College Moorhead with a healthcare degree focused on Hospital Administration and Long-Term Care. For the past twelve years, Tim has been with Golden Living, starting out as an Administrator and currently Director of Operations, overseeing fourteen facilities located in both rural and metro areas in Minnesota. Tim serves as a Director at Large on the Board of Directors and has held an elected position on the board since 2006.

Tim answered a few questions to give us a little more insight behind his dedication:

Where are your roots?

Fargo, ND

What drew you to work in long-term care?

I went to Concordia College Moorhead and they have a great Hospital and LTC Administrator program. I started out focusing on the Hospital side of the business and took the few extra LTC classes for a fall-back plan. I had to do a practicum to qualify for my Administrator's license and spent the summer in a nursing home in Moorhead, MN. I simply fell in love with the place and the caring people and staff that worked at this facility. After that one summer, my focus changed to LTC and I’m very happy I made that change.

How do you spend time when you aren’t working?

Two young boys age 5 and 2 and a beautiful wife take most of my time, but I do find time to hunt and fish also.

What is something most people don’t know about you?

I lived in Burbank, California for a winter and was in the movie Son in Law with Pauly Shore. All my scenes ended on the cutting room floor.

What has been your most memorable day at work?

There are many; most recently I dressed up as a Santa Elf and handed out Christmas presents to all the residents. The gifts brought tears from some residents and it warmed my heart and even brought a tear or two from me (but don’t tell anyone). (Smile)

Did you have a mentor when you started in the business; and if so, who?

Dave Erickson, the administrator at the facility where I did my summer practicum.

What book are you currently reading?

Hospice: The Loving Circle by K.T. Anders and John Ross. I also read a lot of hunting periodicals.

What technology gadget do you use that you would never give up?

Blackberry.

What is your most frequently accessed webpage?

Fantasy Football.

Describe what you would consider to be the ideal vacation?

Hunting moose in the Yukon with my boys.
