Do you know an unsung hero making a difference in the lives of seniors? What about an individual or agency who has had a broad impact on the senior community? If so, consider a nomination or two for the Shelley Joseph-Kordell Awards.

Shelley Joseph-Kordell was a pioneer in geriatric care management who made professional advocacy and service for seniors her life’s passion. After her death in 2003, her friends, family, and Hennepin County established the Shelley Joseph-Kordell Award & Scholarship Ceremony to honor her legacy. The annual ceremony, as well as the corresponding awards, celebrate individuals who work with seniors by recognizing their commitment and dedication to aging issues and seniors themselves.

To honor those who, like Shelley, have demonstrated a record of service to older people, two awards have been established:

Shelley Joseph-Kordell Award: Honoring Individuals and Agencies
To recognize individuals or agencies who have consistently shown a passion for serving seniors and who have had a broad impact in the community.

Shelley Joseph-Kordell Award: Honoring Unsung Heroes
To recognize an individual “unsung hero” in the community who is working directly with seniors and whose work has made a significant difference in the lives of those around them.

Nominations are due by June 30, 2011. The awards are presented at the finale ceremony for the Fall Aging Conference on Thursday, November 10, 2011.
