Housing, Home and Community-Based Services
Potential Marketing Issues Arise with October 1 Implementation of Mandatory Transitional Consultation
By Phil Manz The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) has finalized the mandatory transitional consultation prospective resident information brochure. This brochure, sometimes called the “kiosk card,” has been available in three versions on the Minnesota Board on Aging website. Please note the use of “Registered Housing with Services setting” in the new brochure. While this is the appropriate regulatory term, few if any consumers contact our office looking for a registered housing with services setting. If your potential residents did a google search for housing with services on Wednesday, September 21, one item that came up near the top of the results list was a Minnesota House of Representatives research report — Assisted Living/Housing with Services in Minnesota — that is over 10 years old. Members may want to prepare their staff to handle inquiries about the “new/old” term, housing with services. We told staff at www.minnesotahelp.info that we think all applicable providers should appear in the results list when a search for “housing with services” is done at MinnesotaHelp.info. If you told the Minnesota Department of Health that you are running an “assisted living” establishment, your business probably did not show up on September 21 in a search for “housing with services” on MinnesotaHelp.info. (When we searched the database for housing with services establishments on the 21st, less than half of the assisted living establishments came up in the search results.) Members at our June region meetings said that very few prospective residents mentioned searching MinnesotaHelp.info for information. However, this could change once mandatory transitional consultation begins. Because the staff of the Senior LinkAge Line use the database of MinnesotaHelp.info as their information resource, your business should be listed there as housing with services. Learn here how to update what is posted on MinnesotaHelp.info about your establishment. If you have questions, contact information is in a May 27 Action article here. Phil Manz |
