When you think back a few years, terms like search engine and crawlers seemed futuristic and complicated. Now it’s hard to imagine not googling to find out information on everything. (And, for those trivia buffs, did you know ‘google’ was officially added as a verb to the Oxford English Dictionary back in 2006?)

One of the latest rollouts of the Internet is the QR code — or quick response code — and they are everywhere. Basically, a QR code is like a bar code but contains much more information. By scanning the code with your iPhone, iPad2, Android, or other camera-equipped smartphone or tablet computer, you are quickly connected to that business, where you can get even more information, coupons, event details, etc.

Why use it? It’s amazingly convenient — why type in text when you can just hold up your phone and scan the code?

You’ll be seeing more QR codes on the pieces produced by Care Providers of Minnesota — right now the ones we use will either take you to our website or to our Action newsletter.

So if you want to give it a try — go ahead and scan. (Note: free scanning software is downloadable — just google search for the model of your smartphone or camera-equipped tablet computer along with “QR reader” to find a source.)
