From the Desk of Gail Sheridan
By Gail Sheridan, Chair, Board of Directors
In just a little more than two weeks, the Enrich & Inspire Convention & Expo will be here! And of course, as your Board Chair, I’m privy to a few of the special (i.e., surprise) events that will be happening — but I guarantee you, it’s going to be a great time. Or maybe it’s time to get into Convention lingo — it’s going to be an enriching time! Monday morning, our keynote session will kick off the Convention with AHCA/NCAL's president and CEO, Governor Mark Parkinson, as the featured speaker. During the presentation, Mark will share his vision about long-term care — the challenges and opportunities long-term and post-acute care face. The morning will also recognize three award recipients, whose deeds will certainly leave you inspired (more Convention lingo)! Breakout education sessions for the day begin at 12:30 p.m., followed by an Expo Hall preview at 5:00, and then Monday Night Football — including a tailgate party (and who doesn’t like a tailgating party, especially when it’s held inside)! Come and see members show their true colors as the Packers play the Vikings ... need I say more? Tuesday’s keynote speaker is Carr Hagerman, a former street performance artist who now draws on his experience to teach us about being a top performer based on the power of commitment, play, attitude, and presence! The Expo Hall — a must for all attendees — opens at 10 a.m., and includes more than 100 exhibitors who look forward to sharing information with you about their products and services. Later on Tuesday is the Celebration of Caring reception which starts at 5 p.m. During the reception, members are encouraged to bid on Silent Auction items — which are one of the ways the Care Providers of Minnesota Foundation raises funds. I encourage you to bid on these auction items, as all monies raised will be used to provide scholarships for those pursuing their education in long-term care. The annual awards dinner starts at 6 p.m. and includes the presentation of awards to some pretty spectacular people, including one of my favorite award presentations: surprising this year’s Member of the Year! Wednesday we have more breakout education sessions before the Convention wraps up with the Closing Session speaker, Donna Manring. Donna is a health care consultant who will share how to live every day with a positive outlook and a “generosity of spirit.” And of course, mixed in between the education sessions, expo hall, coffee breaks, and more, are the many opportunities to visit with friends from across the state. It’s the one time of year when we’re all together, with the same goal of providing great care to Minnesotans! You can register here, if you haven't already done so. See you there! Gail Sheridan |
