Election Results and Highlights from the 2011 Annual Meeting
By Nancy McCoy The Annual Membership meeting of the Association was held on Monday, November 14, at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis. Below are outlined the changes that were approved at the meeting; the election results for the 2012 Board of Directors; and updates from Lisa Abicht-Swensen, the Foundation Board of Directors chairperson; Gail Sheridan, Board of Directors chairperson; and Patti Cullen, President/CEO. 2011 Dues Resolution: Elections to the 2012 Board of Directors: The following individuals were elected to the 2012 Board of Directors
The following individuals, whose terms did not expire this year, complete the 2012 Board of Directors:

Lisa Abicht-Swensen, Chairperson of the Foundation Board of Trustees, updated members on many of the activities the Foundation focused their attention on this year, including expanding current programs, partnerships, future work and the continued fundraising to support the Foundation's mission. The Foundation awarded scholarships totaling $33,600 to students working in long-term care. Lisa updated members on the Leading4Life Leadership Fellowship program, as well as the search for additional partners for this special program, and the continued partnership with the International Institute of Minnesota’s Medical Career Advancement Program. In closing, Lisa detailed the fundraising initiatives that took place this year, including the Wall of Wine/Silent Auction during convention. Gail Sheridan, Chairperson of the Board of Directors, kicked off her report by highlighting the inner workings of the Association and the staff at Care Providers of Minnesota. Following the Association report, she focused on the accomplishments of the past two years and spoke about changes in the strategic direction, the commitment to quality, and Health Care Reform implementation. Patti Cullen, President/CEO, focused on the advocacy efforts made at the state and federal level, the grassroots efforts, fundraising for Minnesota Members of Congress, participation in the senior issues roundtable, and mandatory transitional consultation, as well as waiver rate reductions, Medicaid reform waiver and emergency MA. Ms. Cullen highlighted the media/PR campaign and the many partnerships that continue to develop and grow. Ms. Cullen followed her report with a special thank you to Gail Sheridan and her commitment to the Association for the past two years. Ms. Cullen presented a plaque and a gift to Ms. Sheridan. Ms. Sheridan congratulated the 2012 Board of Directors and wished all members continued success in their drive for excellence in long-term care. She also thanked all the volunteers who participated on our many committees and task forces. Nancy McCoy |
