MDH to Conduct Survey of Nursing Facilities on the EHR Adoption and Use, and Health Information Exchange
By Todd Bergstrom Next week, the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) will begin surveying nursing facilities on the adoption and use of electronic health records (EHR), and health information exchange (HIE). It is hoped that the upcoming assessment (or survey) of Minnesota’s licensed nursing homes and certified boarding care homes will provide the data needed to make long-term care a priority for future funding. Many nursing facility administrators and in some cases, previously identified corporate office staff, will receive an email from the Minnesota Department of Health with a link to the survey (if you are a nursing facility administrator and you do not receive the survey, that is because the survey was sent to someone at your central office). The short survey was developed by the MDH Office of Health Information Technology, Care Providers of Minnesota, Stratis Health, and other stakeholders. If you receive the email, please take the time to review and respond to the survey. The survey results will be used to establish a statewide profile of nursing homes on their health information exchange and EHR adoption and use. The profile will describe the status, gaps, barriers, and needs which will be used to
